The integration of functional safety into drive and motion control systems is one of the key requirements in mechanical and plant engineering. Modular, scalable solutions that can be efficiently integrated into existing and new architectures are in demand. Against this backdrop, Neuron has developed a hardware-based SafeMotion platform that offers machine builders and component manufacturers flexible integration paths – from external safety boxes to fully integrated multicore solutions.
Machines and systems are becoming increasingly complex, more networked and more dynamic - which simultaneously places higher demands on the safeguarding of movements. Manufacturers of drive controllers and OEMs in particular are under pressure to provide safety functions as an integral part of their drive technology.
Safe drive concepts - i.e. solutions with Safe Torque Off, Safe Stop, Safe Position, etc. - must not only be implemented in compliance with standards (e.g. in accordance with ISO13849 or IEC61508), but must also remain efficient, scalable and seamlessly integrable. The realization of such systems is technically demanding: it requires redundant architectures, deterministic signal processing and validation by third-party bodies such as TÜV. Integrated safety solutions offer significant advantages here: reduced wiring effort, lower
space requirements, accelerated commissioning and simplified certification processes.
